Pigment Lesions

Laser Resurfacing Pigment lesions would be dark spots that are on your body. These dark spots could be age spots, sun spots, freckles or even birthmarks. Almost everyone has a pigment lesion of some type on their body. These spots range from small sizes to those out there that might have large ones.

How is pigment lesions removed?

Generally you are looking at a laser treatment for unwanted pigment lesions. This would mean that you should be having a specific light wave length that will absorb the extra pigment (or the pigment lesion). Basically as the laser passes through the skin your body will react to the light energy by causing the melanin to destruct which will leave your skin looking uniformed.

Is a pigment lesion removal painful?

Generally most people only experience slight discomfort many of them liken it to a rubber band being snapped on to their skin. After the treatment most people say it feels like a light sun burn for a day or so and them it goes away. After about a week or so you should notice the reddening go away and a natural coloring and smooth texture should appear.

What type of post care will I need after I have pigment lesions removal done?

Generally you will want to follow any post care instructions that your skin specialist has provided you with as well as make sure that you are using sun screen when you are going outdoors. Many people will be told that they can shower by the next day as long as they do not scrub.

How many treatments will I need for pigment lesion removal?

Most pigmented lesion removal will take about half the time with the first treatment. The total number of treatments that you will need will depend on the size and depth or the pigment lesion. You will need to talk to your skin specialist to help determine how may treatments you should expect.

Results may vary from person to person depending on factors such as: skin type, skin sensitivity, complexion and follow up treatment as well as precautions take prior to and after treatment.
